Professor Alan Bensoussan is Director of the National Institute of Complementary Medicine and was previously Director of the Centre for Complementary Medicine Research at the University of Western Sydney (from 2001).
Professor Bensoussan has been in clinical practice in Chinese medicine for over 25 years and is an active researcher, attracting funds from the US National Institutes of Health, the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council, Commonwealth and State governments (NSW, QLD, Victoria) and industry.
Professor Bensoussan has also worked in an advisory capacity for government and industry, and has frequently served as a short-term consultant to the World Health Organisation.
His research report on the practice of traditional Chinese medicine in Australia (1996) led to the passage of the Victorian Chinese Medicine (Practitioner) Registration Act.
Professor Bensoussan's research contributions, particularly his clinical trials and public health research in Chinese medicine, have been widely reported and recognised.
