Professor Marc Cohen is a registered general practitioner in Victoria, has an honors degree in physiology and psychological medicine, along with PhDs in both Chinese medicine and biomedical engineering, and Fellowships of the Australian Medical Acupuncture College and the International College of Acupuncture and Electrotherapeutics. He is currently Foundation Professor of Complementary Medicine at RMIT University, a Senior Research Fellow in the Centre for Medical and Health Sciences Education at Monash University, a continuing Expert Advisor to the Complementary Medicines Evaluation Committee (CMEC), and a member of the National Institute of Complementary Medicine (NICM) Consultative Committee. He is also immediate Past-President of the Australasian Integrative Medicine Association (President from 2000-2007).
In addition to this, Prof Cohen is a complementary medicine researcher and academic who has been a pioneer in introducing complementary medicine into mainstream settings and has written extensively on these aspects. He has co-authored many high level reports, and published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles, 15 books and monographs, and 15 book chapters. He co-authored the first and second editions of Herbs and Natural Supplements: An Evidence-Based Guide, both of which were short-listed for an Australian Publishing Award in the scholarly reference section. He sits on the Editorial Board of four international journals and is regularly requested to peer-review articles for numerous international scientific journals. He has recently developed the world's first postgraduate course-work program on 'wellness' with a Grad Cert, Grad Dip and Masters of Wellness qualifications available via distance education.
Prof Cohen has organised many international complementary medicine conferences, and has been an invited speaker at more than 100 conferences including more than 40 international and 40 national conferences in the past five years.
