UV filters in cosmetics

The purpose of this notice is to draw to the attention of companies interested in introducing new ultraviolet (UV) filters for cosmetic use that the arrangements for notification of these chemicals have been changed.

Interested parties are referred to the Chemical Gazette Notice 2 January 2007, which outlines the current arrangements for new UV filters. <http://www.nicnas.gov.au>

Octabromodiphenyl ether

Octabromodiphenyl ether was declared a Priority Existing Chemical (PEC) on 3 January 2006 for a full risk assessment. Octabromodiphenyl ether has been a PEC for 12 months and no applications for assessment have been received. This indicates that this chemical is not imported into or manufactured in Australia. Therefore, the Director, NICNAS, has removed octabromodiphenyl ether from the Australian Inventory of Chemical Substances (AICS).

For more details, see the February 2007 Chemical Gazette, available from the NICNAS website <http://www.nicnas.gov.au>.
