Reason: The presence of a microorganism Burkholderia cepacia has been found in one batch of Colgate Periogard Chlorohex Antiseptic Mouth Rinse on the market. Under certain circumstances, this microorganism may be harmful to individuals with compromised health.
Recall letters will be dispatched from today 24 September 2004. Recall notices will appear in selected newspapers across Australia early next week.

Classification system:

Class I defects are potentially life-threatening or could cause a serious risk to health.

Class II defects could cause illness or mistreatment, but are not Class I.

Class III defects may not pose a significant hazard to health, but withdrawal may be initiated for other reasons.

Class I & II recalls are considered to be safety related recalls.
